Meet the Team
Dr. Bill Sears, one of America’s most renowned pediatricians, is the father of eight children, ages 17 to 42 years, author of over 40 books on childcare and Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. A pediatrician for over 35 years, he currently lives and practices pediatrics along with his three sons Dr. Bob and Dr. Jim and Dr. Pete in San Clemente, California. Dr. Sears received his pediatric training at the Harvard Medical School Children’s Hospital in Boston and The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, the largest children’s hospital in the world, where he served as Associate Ward Chief of the newborn nursery and Associate Professor of Pediatrics. In addition to writing many books and scientific articles, Dr. Sears is a medical and parenting consultant to Baby Talk and Parenting Magazines. Dr. Sears is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a fellow of the Royal College of Pediatricians.
“Dr. Bill” (as his little patients call him) and his wife Martha, who is an R.N., have been guests on over 100 television shows including: “20/20,” “Donahue,” “Good Morning America.” “Oprah Winfrey,” “CBS This Morning,” “CNN,” “Today Show,” “Dateline” and most recently the “Dr. Phil Show” where they are regular guests. Dr. Bill is the on-line pediatrician for Parenting.com. James Sears, MD
Dr. Jim Sears is a Board Certified Pediatrician and co-host of the 2010 Emmy Award-winning informational talk show The Doctors. Arguably one the most recognized and trusted pediatricians in the U.S. and around the world (the show is syndicated in 22 countries), Dr. Jim is also the Children’s Health Specialist for AOL Health’s Medical Advisory Board and contributes regularly to AskDrSears.com.
Dr. Jim’s wild popularity stems from his ability to connect with people and deliver complicated medical advice in a practical, real-world and useful way. His sense of humor, passion for discovery, and good sportsmanship knows no bounds and he is often called upon on The Doctors to be the resident “guinea pig” – testing and tasting the latest or strangest medical myths and mysteries.
Before joining The Doctors, Dr Jim’s expert advice was sought by Dr. Phil and the PBS series, Help Me Grow. He is co-author of The Healthiest Kid in the Neighborhood (Little, Brown 2006), Father’s First Steps – Twenty-Five Things Every New Father Should Know, (Harvard Common Press 2006). The Premature Baby Book (Little, Brown 2004), The Baby Sleep Book (Little, Brown 2006) and the best selling The Baby Book – Revised Edition (Little, Brown 2003).
Dr. Jim earned his medical degree at St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1996 and completed his pediatric residency at Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine, Tod Children’s Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio in 1999. During his residency, he received the honor of “emergency medicine resident of the year.”
Dr. Jim frequently travels the country speaking about the importance of good family nutrition. In his entertaining lectures, he shares many of the nutritional changes that keep his family healthy and helped him lose over 40 pounds! He is most passionate about the vital role that nutrition plays in a variety of medical and behavioral problems.
Paul Stricker, MD
Paul Stricker, M.D. is one of just over a hundred doctors in the U.S. who are board-certified in both pediatrics and sports medicine. Stricker currently practices medicine privately at Scripps Clinic, an internationally recognized multi-specialty medical group and clinical research institution specializing in more than 50 fields of medicine and surgery.
Stricker’s vast experience and training is highly sought after by many of the United States top athletes and associations. In addition to serving as a team physician for the U.S. Olympic Team at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and for the U.S. national teams in swimming, soccer, gymnastics, and basketball, he was appointed head physician of the World University Games in 1999. He has also served as team physician for the Division 1A Vanderbilt University Commodores in Nashville, Tennessee and the University of San Diego Toreros in San Diego, California.
After earning his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia, he completed research in Sports Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas, a pediatric internship and residency at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, and completed medical fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Paul Stricker has served as Assistant Professor in the departments of Pediatrics and Orthopedics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, and as Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Rady Children’s Hospital, University of California-San Diego (UCSD). Hi is also a charter member and past-president of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness, a member of the editorial advisory board of Healthy Children magazine, and a reviewer of manuscripts for the journal Pediatrics. Author of the awarding-winning book entitled Sports Success Rx, published in conjunction with the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Bob is President/CEO and managing partner of The L.E.A.N. Group, LLC which is the parent company that oversees Dr. Sears’ Wellness Institute. He has been in senior level management and has extensive marketing experience along with unique and valuable experience in the wellness field. Bob also has a deep understanding of health and wellness initiatives and has developed programs for some of the largest retailers in the country, including Albertsons Healthy Living Program and Raley’s Well for Life program, among others. These programs were geared towards educating shoppers on nutrition and healthy living practices and run by the Registered Dietitians on Bob’s team.
Bob has over 25 years of experience with some of the largest grocery, food and consumer product companies in the nation, where he held numerous senior management positions. With this experience, he understands the drivers behind the food industry and the powerful influence it has on our nation’s health. However, during his time in the food and consumer products industry and like so many of his colleagues, Bob never realized the dangers that existed with the products being consumed. Even when Bob served as Vice President for Coca-Cola – where he managed both Sales and Marketing for a half-billion dollar division, the idea that high-fructose corn syrup in soft drinks could have such a detrimental effect on our nation’s health was not even imaginable. He earned his B.S. Degree in Marketing from San Diego State University.
Dominique has been with Dr. Sears’ Wellness Institute since its inception in 2007 (originally known as Dr. Sears L.E.A.N.) and as a Certified L.E.A.N. Coach has taught L.E.A.N. Program courses in a variety of settings, including schools and healthcare facilities. As the Executive Director of Education, Dominique oversees the L.E.A.N. Coach training and certification courses, works closely with Dr. Sears in the development of new L.E.A.N. programs and provides continued support to Certified L.E.A.N. Coaches.
Prior to working with the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute, she was with two leading pharmaceutical companies in the areas of cardiovascular medicine, cholesterol management, diabetes, mental health, and allergies. During her pharmaceutical career, she worked closely with physicians, residents, and diabetic educators in a variety of settings including health maintenance organizations (HMO’s) and teaching hospitals.
Dominique holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of California, Riverside, and a Masters of Arts degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Colorado at Denver. She has taught in both elementary and middle school and has had extensive experience working with school districts and curriculum. She also attended Bauman College for Holistic Nutrition and Culinary Arts where she received her designation as a Certified Nutrition Educator. She is also a member of National Association of Nutrition Professionals.
Erinn Snively joined the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute in 2013 as the Nutrition Educator. She holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of California, Riverside. Following her passion for nutrition she became a Certified Nutrition Educator from Bauman College for Holistic Nutrition and Culinary Arts while working for a non-profit organization dedicated to the holistic treatment of cancer and other degenerative diseases. After the birth of her first daughter in 2007 she came across Dr. Sears, The Attachment Parenting Book and has been an avid follower of his advice ever since and became a Certified Health Coach through the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute in the summer of 2012. Erinn is a wife and mother to three children ages 7, 5 and 2 and resides in Parker, CO. She is thrilled to be a part of the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute team building a healthier world, one family at a time.
Melody Gylling joined the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute 2009 and currently serves as the Education & Client Resource Manager. Melody’s primary role at the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute is to assist Dr. Sears Health Coaches in their journey to becoming a successful health coach by utilizing her vast knowledge of technology, print and interpersonal communication, marketing, event planning, sales, and design. When she isn’t assisting coaches, Melody plays an integral part in updating online classrooms and in the development of new Health Coaching Certification programs.
Previously, Melody obtained her degree from Grace College in Winona Lake, IN, and has worked with a variety of industry leaders in both for-profit and non-profit sectors where she excelled in marketing and event planning. Melody’s multi-tasking and organizational skills are continuously being refined in her role as a working mom of a busy toddler and a military husband. In her free time, Melody enjoys volunteering with the Colorado National Guard family programs and teaching youth at weekly community meetings and events. Melody’s passion for improving the lives of individuals both physically and mentally inspires her work with the Dr. Sears Certified Health Coaches and program development.
Amy Quinn is a Certified Health Coach Instructor as well as a credentialed elementary school teacher. She graduated from Cal State University Long Beach where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies, a minor in Visual and Performing Arts, and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. During her years in the elementary school classroom, Amy taught kindergarten, second, and fifth grade. While serving as a fifth grade teacher, she helped to mainstream learning programs for deaf and hard of hearing students. In 2004, after the birth of her daughter, Caitlin, she had the privilege of meeting Dr. Jim Sears. His guidance and advice changed the health of her entire family. Amy was so inspired that she left her career as a classroom teacher behind to become a “Mom on a Nutrition Mission.” Amy began to teach classes in her community based on Dr. Sears’ advice. As enrollment in her classes grew at the local park and recreation department, Amy had the chance to become a Certified Health Coach for the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute in 2008. Amy is passionate about teaching Dr. Sears L.E.A.N. philosophies and is thankful she has the opportunity to share in Dr. Sears’ ministry of good health. She is thrilled to be a part of the Dr. Sears’ Wellness Institute team by inspiring new coaches around the globe.
Becky Bishop is a Certified Health Coach Instructor. She earned her Dr. Sears Certified Health Coach in the Fall of 2009 and has taught the L.E.A.N. and Prime Time Health series of classes to groups large and small. One of her most rewarding experiences was being the Nutrition Educator at a head start preschool where she taught the Dr. Sears’ L.E.A.N. principles to students, families and staff. As a Certified Health Coach, she was featured on the Great Day St. Louis television show and she was a frequent guest on the web-radio show, Conscious Manifesting. Her healthy lifestyle articles have been published in the holistic living magazine, The Rising, and on the health and wellness website, Livestrong.com. Becky has always enjoyed sports and exercise and she played NCAA Division I tennis at the University of Kansas. In addition to her passion for teaching others about the powerful benefits of a L.E.A.N lifestyle, Becky is a wife and a mother to 15 year old twins. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas. She practiced law for over 15 years and is a certified mediator. Becky is honored to be a part of the Dr. Sears’ Wellness Institute team and is thrilled to be a part of the ever expanding family of Dr. Sears’ health coaches who are inspiring people all over the world to make positive changes to their lifestyle, exercise, attitude and nutrition.
Miriam G. Zacharias
Miriam Zacharias brings to the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute her extensive education in nutrition and coaching along with expertise in the marketing of health and wellness. Miriam is the instructor of the extended education Marketing Mastery Course for the Institute. She is the creator of From Prospect to Patient©, a breakthrough marketing and sales method for health and wellness professionals which teaches them how to achieve greater personal and financial freedom and reach greater numbers of clients to make more health happen. Following 25+ years as a sales and marketing executive in corporate America, including Microsoft, Oracle, and Kidde Corporations, Miriam received advanced degrees and certifications in holistic nutrition, executive coaching, and in sports nutrition. In the past decade, Miriam has worked with countless health practitioners and organizations as a marketing advisor, speaker, and teacher. Her rare talent in applying a conscious marketing model to build a thriving nutrition practice uniquely qualifies her to enable others in health and wellness fields increase their impact. Along with her role at the Institute, she is currently the CEO of Competitive Fitness Group, Chief Nutrition Officer and Marketing Strategist at TriathlonExperts.com, adjunct marketing faculty at Maryland University of Integrative Health, and serves as Vice President of the National Association of Nutrition Professionals, the leading holistic nutrition association in the United States.
