5 Questions to Consider Before You Start Your Journey

Becoming a health coach is your opportunity to inspire and guide individuals toward a healthier lifestyle. Before embarking on this journey, assessing whether it aligns with your skills, interests, and goals is important. This article will address our five most frequently asked questions to help you make an informed decision about pursuing a career as a Health Coach.

1) What traits do successful health coaches have?

Becoming a Health Coach requires a passion for helping others and a desire to make a positive impact on people’s lives. These are the top traits that we see successful health coaches have:

  • Passionate about healthy living: Their passion for health and wellness is contagious, and they want to share it with others.
  • Natural helpers: They love walking alongside others to help them achieve their goals and are happiest when helping others succeed.
  • Strong communication skills: They are good listeners and understand the importance of meeting their clients where they are and getting them to where they want to be.
  • Knowledgeable, life-long learners: They have the attitude that there is always something new to learn. Successful coaches know it’s important to keep learning and growing.

2) Where can I work, or what can I do with my certification?

There are many opportunities for Certified Health Coaches, depending on your background and who you’d like to work with. Individuals who graduate from the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute work in a variety of settings, including healthcare, corporate wellness, schools, fitness centers, and more. Health Coaches can work with individuals, small groups (in a workshop format), and large groups.

Many of our coaches are entrepreneurial and work within their own community. To support their efforts, we provide extensive tools and resources to help them get started.  Learn more about how our coaches are using their certifications.

3) How does training work?

Effective Health Coaching does not take a one-size-fits-all approach. This is why our programs are designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills that meet your needs and the needs of all your clients with our Families, Pregnancy, and Adults & Seniors life-stage courses. You also have the opportunity to continue to advance your skills with our master-level course.

Our programs offer flexible online learning with 24/7 access to the online classroom so you can learn when it makes sense for your schedule. For our life-stage courses, there is a live call each week led by your instructor. We encourage you to attend the live call, but we always make the recording available if you are unable to attend. Our master-level course has a live component that takes place once a week for two hours via a web conferencing platform. Whichever path you choose, your instructor is there to support you as much as you need.

Regardless of the path you choose, you will earn your certification and be able to start coaching after the first six weeks.

4) What ongoing support do I get after I graduate?

A great program will provide ongoing support to graduates, including access to professional development and business-building resources, continuing education opportunities, and access to coaching communities.

Once you earn your certification, you will begin to receive unparalleled support. We offer a great deal of ongoing support, including continuing education, marketing resources, client handouts, and more. You will also gain access to our active coach community of like-minded individuals and have access to our Coach Success Manager if you would like personalized guidance.

5) What makes your program different?

When considering a Health Coach program, it’s important to choose one that aligns with your goals and provides the education, support, and resources you need to succeed. While many programs in the field offer a general focus on health coaching, the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute offers that unique approach. Our program trains you in coaching your clients based on their specific life-stages, which is one of the key factors contributing to our graduates’ success.

Because our training was designed by a medical doctor, everything you learn is holistic and evidence-based. We take a lifestyle medicine approach based on Dr. Sears’ four pillars of health: lifestyle, exercise, attitude, and nutrition.

The Dr. Sears Wellness Institute is here to provide you with the tools, resources, and support you need to lead the way to a healthier future. Learn more about becoming a Certified Health Coach.
