Coconut oil has only recently been circulating as a trendy, healthy option to include in diets and beauty routines alike. In fact, this oil has been a staple for many people, particularly in the tropics and subtropics, for centuries. In the modern, western sense, it lost its luster when Saturated Fats became the main culprit in heart disease and made a swift exit from American diets. Recent research and studies, however, have been slowly revealing that not all saturated fats should be on the sidelines of our diets–they aren’t created equal and some appear to be quite good for us.
